Urban Planning Online Classes

Due to my competitive volleyball schedule, including tournaments and camps in July and August, I am not able to take longer, in-person college courses during my summers. So I took online courses instead as well as a one week course at Drexel University this summer to learn about materials science.

Below are the courses I have taken or audited during summers, breaks and weekends. 

Architecture and the City: Sustainable Urban Design that Inspires

  • During the summer of 2023, I took an eight-week online class on Architecture and the City with Urban Planning Professor Dr. Stefan Al
  • My final project was a report and SketchUp model to redesign area surrounding Dallas Reunion Tower 
  • Received a Top 10% assessment by Dr. Al.

Dr. Stefan Al

  • Prolific architect and urban designer, including the Canton Tower (China) and Resort City (Oman)
  • Professor and teacher, including at Columbia, University of Pennsylvania, Virginia Tech, and Hunter College (current).
  • Author of 8 books, including Beyond Mobility and Supertall.

Provides an exploration of cities from various perspectives, including historical and cultural. The course aims to help learners better understand, appreciate, and improve urban areas around the world.

Examines the evolving structure of cities and how cities, suburbs, and metropolitan areas can be designed and developed. It analyzes the many forces that shape and reshape cities over time.

(Completed)

This course explores how cities evolve over time, shaped by history, politics, economics, and the environment. Through site analysis and historical mapping, students learn to interpret urban landscapes and understand the forces driving change.
